Ensuring the purity of your home’s water is essential for health and comfort. At Pete Black Plumbing, we specialize in providing top-tier water purification services to the Brighton and Howell communities. Our team of experienced plumbers is dedicated to installing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of water purification systems, including reverse osmosis units. With over 35 years of experience, we are committed to delivering solutions that ensure your water is clean, safe, and refreshing.

A professionally installed water purification system offers numerous benefits. It effectively removes contaminants such as aluminum, arsenic, bacteria, lead, and pesticides, which can pose serious health risks, including damage to the brain, liver, and kidneys. By eliminating these impurities, you can enjoy water that not only tastes and smells better but also contributes to the longevity of your plumbing fixtures and appliances.

WATER TESTING

Recognizing the signs that you may need a water purification system is crucial. The first indicators include unpleasant tastes or odors, discoloration, or residue buildup on fixtures. For further testing, we can provide a water analysis to pinpoint what is causing your water quality problem. While whole-home filters are effective against many contaminants, they may not address issues like scale buildup or rust, which require a water softener. Our experts can assess your specific situation and recommend the most suitable solution to ensure optimal water quality throughout your home. We offer free home water testing.

CLEANER WATER SOLUTIONS

Reverse osmosis systems are among the most effective water purification methods available. These multi-stage systems first filter out chlorine and particulate matter, then use a semi-permeable membrane to remove solid particulates, and finally employ an activated carbon filter to eliminate any remaining odors or tastes. The result is purified water that is ideal for drinking, cooking, and even sensitive applications like aquariums or for individuals with allergies. Additionally, reducing chlorine and other contaminants helps protect your plumbing system, extending the life of pipes, faucets, and fixtures.

A whole house water filtration system ensures clean, safe water from every faucet by removing contaminants before they enter your home’s plumbing. This not only improves the taste and quality of your drinking water but also benefits your skin and hair health, reduces the risk of waterborne diseases, and provides peace of mind knowing your family is using purified water for drinking, cooking, and bathing. The main idea is, by addressing impurities at the source, these systems offer a comprehensive solution for healthier living.

Activated carbon filtration is effective at reducing chlorine, certain organic compounds, lead, dissolved radon, and taste- and odor-causing substances in drinking water. However, it removes only about 10-15% of total dissolved solids (TDS), making it less effective in areas with high TDS, such as Phoenix. In contrast, reverse osmosis systems remove 95-97% of TDS, providing significantly purer water. While carbon filters improve water quality, they may not be sufficient to make tap water taste like bottled water in regions with high mineral content.

An iron filter effectively reduces both soluble and insoluble iron, removing up to 10 parts per million of iron and 5 parts per million of sulfur and manganese. High levels of iron in water can pose health risks, as they often harbor bacteria that feed on the iron, increasing the likelihood of bacterial growth. This can lead to stomach issues such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Installing an iron filter helps ensure cleaner, safer water while reducing the risk of these health concerns.

A water softener is an excellent solution for homes with hard water, as it removes heavy minerals like calcium, iron, and magnesium from the water supply. This helps prevent common issues such as scale buildup, clogged pipes, leaky faucets, damaged appliances, chalky residue on dishes, dry skin and hair, and faded clothing. By preventing minerals from binding or flowing through the water, a water softener improves overall water quality, resulting in cleaner dishes, brighter clothes, softer skin, and better-tasting drinking water while also saving time and money on maintenance and cleaning.

Water Contamination

Microbial contaminants are not as easily detectable as the smell of sulfur or the black staining of manganese. But they can still be dangerous to your health.

White Scale Build-Up

Mineral Build Up known as hard water contains heightened levels of minerals like magnesium and calcium. Over time, these deposits build up inside your water heater and on any surface that contacts water. Overtime, this buildup can corrode your plumbing.

RUST

If your sinks, tubs, and toilets are covered in rust stains, you might have an iron problem. If left untreated, iron can clog your pipes and leave your water tasting metallic.

What type of plumbing do most houses have?

Home plumbing systems commonly use copper, PVC, PEX, and galvanized steel pipes. Copper pipes stand out for their durability and resistance to corrosion, often recognized by their shiny, reddish-brown appearance. Making an infrastructure update can improve your quality of life. Whether you’re upgrading or repairing your plumbing, understanding these materials can help you make the best choice for long-lasting, reliable water flow in your home.
